The son of a violinist, Alexander Sputh<\/strong> took up the guitar at 13<\/strong> and soon immersed himself in blues<\/strong>, jazz<\/strong>, and bossa nova<\/strong>. By 20<\/strong> he had chosen a professional path in music. After leaving his studies at the University of Cologne<\/strong>, he toured with various jazz<\/strong> and jazz-rock<\/strong> ensembles, performing at European festivals such as Ch\u00e2teauvallon<\/strong> (France), Pori<\/strong> (Finland), Bratislava<\/strong> (Czechoslovakia), and Leuven<\/strong> (Belgium), and recorded several albums across different styles.<\/p>\n

In 1985\/86<\/strong> he furthered his training at the Banff Centre<\/strong> (Canada) with John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, Dave Liebman<\/strong>, and Richie Beirach<\/strong>. He has lived in the Canary Islands<\/strong> for over 30 years<\/strong>. Spanish National Television (TVE)<\/strong> devoted a half-hour segment to him on Jazz entre amigos<\/em> (1989), and in 2000<\/strong> he presented his quartet at the Canarias Jazz & M\u00e1s International Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He currently plays in several jazz-rooted projects: Ziriab<\/strong> (flamenco-jazz, with Pedro Sanz<\/strong> and Kike Perdomo<\/strong>), Palm Fiction<\/strong> (with Martin Hohwalter<\/strong>, piano, and Thomas Kagermann<\/strong>, violin), and a duo<\/strong> with Cuban cellist Cary Rosa Varona<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n
